Hey Loves! ✨
I’ve just returned from a dreamy two-week solo adventure through the South of France, and I’m brimming with stories, memories, and a renewed perspective on balance and self-care. This wasn’t just a trip to explore a stunning part of the world; it was also a chance to slow down, embrace a more balanced approach to life, and reconnect with myself.
Starting in Style: Nice
My journey kicked off in Nice, the crown jewel of the French Riviera. From the moment I stepped off the plane, I was greeted by the vibrant Mediterranean blues and the charming buzz of Old Town. I spent hours wandering the Promenade des Anglais, taking in the salty sea air, and weaving through narrow alleys lined with pastel-colored buildings. Every corner seemed to hold a boulangerie or café, and yes, I indulged in more than my fair share of pain au chocolat. (I mean, when in France, right?)
One evening, I found myself sitting at a seafront café, watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of pink and gold. I realized then how therapeutic it is to simply sit and take it all in—no plans, no schedules, just the sound of the waves and the laughter of people around me. It was a gentle reminder that sometimes, the most restorative thing we can do is nothing at all.
The Heart of Provence: St. Remy de Provence
After a few blissful days in Nice, I ventured inland to the idyllic village of St. Remy de Provence. This charming spot became my home base for exploring the region, and it felt like stepping into a postcard. Picture cobblestone streets, sun-drenched squares, and fields of lavender stretching to the horizon.
From St. Remy, I embarked on day trips that felt like stepping through history. Arles, with its Roman amphitheater and the very streets that inspired Van Gogh, left me in awe. I stood in the same spots he painted, imagining the vibrant yellows and blues that danced in his mind. Nîmes, with its ancient monuments, and the Pont du Gard, a towering Roman aqueduct, were equally magical. I spent an afternoon at the Pont du Gard, marveling at the sheer ingenuity of its construction, and even dipped my feet in the cool waters below.
Embracing a Balanced Lifestyle
If there’s one thing the French have mastered, it’s balance. As someone who’s deeply committed to fitness and nutrition, I’ve often found it challenging to fully relax on holiday. But in Provence, I discovered the beauty of indulging without guilt. The buttery croissants, the crisp rosé, the fresh baguettes with creamy brie—each bite was a celebration.
The best part? All the walking, hiking, and cycling I did balanced it out naturally. Whether it was exploring ancient streets, cycling through vineyards, or hiking to scenic viewpoints, I stayed active in ways that didn’t feel like exercise. It reminded me that fitness doesn’t always have to involve a gym—it can be woven into the fabric of your adventures.
One morning, I joined a small cycling group for a ride through the Alpilles. We pedaled past olive groves and lavender fields, stopping occasionally to admire the views. At one point, we found a quaint market where I picked up fresh fruit and a local cheese. Sitting on a stone wall, sharing snacks and stories with strangers-turned-friends, I felt a profound sense of contentment. It wasn’t about burning calories; it was about experiencing life fully.
Reflections on My Journey
As I look back on those two weeks, I’m struck by how much this trip taught me about balance and self-care. Life can be so hectic, and it’s easy to get caught up in routines and responsibilities. But stepping away, even for a little while, allows us to reset and gain clarity.
This journey reminded me to:
Embrace indulgence: Life’s too short to skip the croissant or say no to a glass of wine. It’s all about moderation and enjoying the moment.
Stay active in meaningful ways: Movement doesn’t have to be regimented. It can be as simple as a walk through a lavender field or a bike ride along a country road.
Prioritize self-care: Whether it’s through travel, meditation, or a quiet moment with a good book, taking time for yourself is essential.
Until the Next Adventure…
Provence will always hold a special place in my heart. Its beauty, culture, and the lessons it taught me about balance and living in the moment have left a lasting impact. While I can’t wait to return someday, I’m carrying those lessons with me and incorporating them into my everyday life.
So, loves, whether it’s a trip abroad or a quiet weekend at home, remember to find your balance, indulge a little, and cherish every moment.
Here’s to embracing the journey, wherever it may lead. ❤️
